21th thanks giving

Koreans call thanks giving day as CHOO SUK. Traditionally koreans' life was adopted to lunar calander so the moon is full by this time. CHOO SUK has been one of my favorite holiday in that this allows time for my relatives gather and have time together.

My earliest memory about thanksgiving is the one when I was 3 years old. I was clever that day that I knew that I will get more food and money if I hug adults around me while smiling.

I have noticed at some point that my value that day was toward food and any mean to buy food. I would like to say that I was pretty realistic.

Jimin always tells me that I am childish. As you might have noticed, I really really like kids, if they are younger than four, they are perfect to me haha. I love young babies. If they are older than that, I would like to say they are my friends. I meant we will be on the same level of thinking.

UMBC experience has provided me realistic vision on the future and my surrounding. Great experiences such as multiculturalism, competition and religion have dragged me out of child experience. I have noticed that I have been shaped by time and thinking associated with my age.

Recently, I tried really hard to make myself go back to child - minded person who view the world without and biased vision, who interact people sincerely and who knows how to express his emotion truely.

In 21th thanksgiving, I want to feel my children experience again surrounded by my relatives who live in Korea. I miss them who are able to cast to back to the day when I wish to live.

  1. Jiyong this was very cool to read! I love to learn about your culture and some of the traditions you grew up with.

I wish you a Happy Choo Suk. I hope it's a fun and relaxing time with family and friends.

Don't loose that child-like feeling.. it keeps us young and happy. Like you said, sometimes we need it to remain sane in this adult & tense world at times. :)
